This student-run organization is an active element of the Capital Area Literacy Coalition (CALC). Drawing its members from all academic classes and departments at Michigan State University, the Student Literacy Corps
assists in the coalition's operation from tutoring and office work to publicity to planning fund-raising events.

Student Literacy Corps Trainings:
Initial trainings for SLC volunteers are usually scheduled at the begining of each fall and spring semester. Later, toward the middle of the semester, volunteers will have the opportunity to hone their skills by attending a short mid-semester review training. For more information on the Student Literacy Corps training schedule, please click here, or choose the Workshops navigation button from the right.
Read to SUCCEED program information:
The majority of our SLC volunteers become involved with our Read to SUCCEED program and work at various sites in Lansing and East Lansing, mornings, afternoons and evenings. Carpooling is also available to certain sites. Please check with the SLC office for specific availability. For more information on the SUCCEED program, please click here, or choose the Read to SUCCEED navigation button from the right.
Michigan State University students can arrange for independent study credit and internships through volunteer work with CALC. They can also gain valuable work experience in other areas. Students can become diagnosticians, tutor consultants, fundraisers, grant writers, recruiters, and public relations volunteers. This type of volunteering provides the opportunity for effective networking and résumé building while helping support literacy programs.
