The goal of the Children's Book Drop program is to promote the love of reading and learning by providing attractive books which children will want to learn to read. We need new or gently used books for all of our programs and our greatest need is for books suitable for children pre K through eighth grade. Hundreds of children in our programs in Ingham, Clinton and Eaton counties benefit from the book give-aways; for many of them, the books they bring home from our programs are the only books they own. David Gallimore, a volunteer in the General Motors / United Auto Workers Protected Employee Program (P.E.P.), contributed to the Capital Area Literacy Coalition in many ways. We are especially thrilled with the Children's Book Drop collection containers that he constructed. The spiffy new containers can be seen at Schuler Books in the Meridian Mall, Barnes and Noble’s in East Lansing, and Community News in Frandor. |
G.M. and U.A.W. are making a wonderful contribution to our community. We hope to have another member of the P.E.P. program soon.
